Joint pains are standard, especially when you get older. You can do certain things to ease the pain, but if it’s very painful or doesn’t get better, seek medical help.
Joint pain types
Common types of joint pains are:
- Knee pain
- Shoulder pain
- Hip pain
- Hand pain
- Foot pain
- Elbow pain
- Neck pain
Joint pain causes and symptoms
There are multiple symptoms of joint pain that might indicate its reason. But do not self-diagnose; kindly consult a doctor. Follow are the possible causes and their symptoms:
- Sprain or strain: bruising after intense exercise, pain, or swelling
- Osteoarthritis: Stiffness after moving
- Bursitis: Swollen, hot joint joints more painful while touching
- Rheumatoid arthritis: Pain and stiffness in both sides of the body
- Gout: Hot, swollen toe joint
- Septic arthritis: Hot, swollen joint, high temperature, or shivery

Joint pain self-care
- Rest the paining joint
- Keep an ice pack over the joint
- Maintain your body BMI
- Try not to carry anything heavy
- Don’t completely stop moving your paining joint
Consult a doctor
- If joint pain stops your regular activities
- The pain keeps coming back
- The pain doesn’t get better after two weeks
- The joints are stiff for more than 30 minutes
- Joint pain with high temperature
Call for an immediate ambulance, if:
- Bad injury by falling
- Unable to walk
- Joint moved out of place
- Tingling sensations in your joints
- Put weight on joints
