Itchy bottom
The itchy bottom is a standard condition where it will itch in or around the anus (bottom), which often comes with a strong urge to scratch. It is also known as pruritus, and it has multiple causes. If the itching is persistent, seek a health professional. Most people get completely relieved from anus itching.
Itchy bottom possible causes
Threadworms: Affects, especially children, where it gets worse at nights
Piles: Causes bleeding, lumps, and pains while pooing
Diahrrea: Where you can’t control your stool
Skin condition: Leads to swelling, sores, and irritation
Side effects: While using long-term medicines
In rare instances, the itchy bottom can be a sign of bowel or anal cancer, so it’s crucial to consult with a doctor.
How to ease the itchy bottom?
- Gently wash and dry your bottom before bed and after pooing
- Wear loose cotton underwear
- Avoid clothing that makes you overheat
- Have shorter, cooler baths or showers, which in under 20 minutes
- Consume a lot of fibers, like vegetables, whole grains, and more
- Don’t wipe after pooing; use water to clean or pat it with moist toilet paper and then pat dry
- Don’t scratch, and to avoid scratching at night, keep your fingernails and try wearing cotton gloves while sleeping
- Don’t strain while going toilet
- Avoid scented bubble baths, soaps, or bath oil
- Don’t use powders or perfumes near your bottom
- Avoid eating spicy foods or don’t consume a lot of caffeine and alcohol; they tend to worsen the itching

Consult a doctor
- If your itching doesn’t ease from three or four days
- If it keeps coming back
- If it worries you or disturbs your sleep
- If the itching spreads elsewhere on your body
